Mark your calender, Set your clock. Be here at 9 a.m. sharp! As always this class is free to the public and I hope everyone can make it and bring friends and family. You don’t wanna miss this one. See ya at 9!
Hey guys and gals, hope you all are having a great week! I know there are more new faces this month and everyone’s working hard.
Here are a few updates:
We will be closed Monday 9/2 for the labor day holiday.
On Saturday 9/14 we will be meeting at Myrtlewood plantation at 8 a.m. for the stars and stripes 6k trail run to honor all our patriots past and present in support of the Senior Chief Dave “Blake” Mclendon Scholarship Fund. Anyone who would like to complete the run with a weight vest(I plan to) let me know and I’ll be sure you have one. After the run we will invite everyone interested to come to Crossfit Unconquered to do Crossfit hero Wod “Blake”. I hope we have a great turnout!
And finally say a little prayer for coach Billy. On 9/1, along with friends from World Camp Crossfit, I will be in Lithia Springs at the Yeti snakebite 50k/50 mile trail run trying to beat my current longest distance of 32 miles. I have to do it now before he get too old next week(9/6 will be my 49th birthday).
Hey guys, just wanted to make everyone aware of our 1st endurance challenge. I’m challenging everyone to step up to the plate and sign up for the North face endurance challenge, September the 28th at FDR state park in Pine mountain Georgia. Our endurance group after the Sweetwater 50k
There’s a race for everyone. There will be a 5k, 10k, 26.2 mile, 50k, 50 mile, and even a marathon relay which is a 4 person team and should be a blast! I want to get shirts made for those that commit early enough. The race is 78 days out today so you have plenty of time to get ready for whichever you want to do. If you’re not sure, get with me and we will discuss it. For those that commit to run I will help you with training plans and information on essentials for the run.
Man what a month! Summer is here and June is turning out to be quite a month. We are seeing a lot of new faces along with our current members. Old or new all are working hard and getting better by the day!
Just a few short weeks into the current strength cycle we are seeing huge gains. Only half way through our “5 rep max” week I’m seeing athletes posting 5 rep numbers that are equal to or greater than their old one rep maxes! Awesome work guys, and remember girls “strong is the new skinny”! Let’s keep it going and try to get your lifts in every week. If you have to miss a day get with one of the coaches and we will tell you when to work the lifts in without affecting your metcon for any given day.
With the current influx of members we will also be getting new “toys”. First on the list with be additional lifting decks. This will allow us a dedicated area for the jerk blocks, which help us coach and improve everyone’s Olympic lifts.
Just one more “atta boy”(or girl) to everyone for making Crossfit Unconquered what we are. It’s been a great 6 months and we’re looking forward to bigger and better things!
Oh yea, don’t forget we will have athletes competing in the “South Ga. Team Throwdown” at World Camp Crossfit in Albany this weekend. Come out, cheer them on, and help represent CU!
Often times during my travels as a salesman I get the opportunity to pass through my old neighborhood. As I drive by the house I lived in from 5 years until junior high school one thing never fails to surprise me. The back yard is really small. Weird huh? Man I remember being a kid and how huge that yard was. When I had to mow the grass it was even bigger. Now as I look at it I almost feel like somehow it magically shrunk over the years.
It happened again just this week. I looked at the 1/4 acre lot, once again amazed, and another thought crossed my mind. I bet that’s how most people feel the first time they walk in the CrossFit gym. Man what a big back yard it is. Whether they are new to exercise all together, or simply coming from a box type gym, I’m sure it can be a little intimidating. There are things hanging from the ceiling that could just as easily be in a medieval dungeon. There’s no carpet, televisions, most likely no air conditioning or juice bars. This may be the point where they actually consider easing out of the door to escape. Then there’s the people. There are some with shirts off, some yelling at others and most definitely some sprawled on the floor either dead, or near death. These are the “in shape” people that are dying. Maybe I could slip out the door. …
Just remember, for that person walking in the door for the first time, it’s a really big back yard. The facility and the people can be a bit intimidating. It’s up to you to make the new kid on the block feel welcome. If you see someone you don’t know make it a point to introduce yourself. Show them around. Introduce them to others. A positive experience starts with a great first impression.
The yard will seem smaller and less intimidating with a little help from the other kids.
Our schedule for Saturday classes for the month of June will be the 8th and the 22nd. These classes start at 9 A.M. sharp. As always these classes are free to the public so feel free to bring family and friends. We can adjust these workouts so that anyone can enjoy and benefit from them.
